We’re sure that you’ll agree with us when we say that the couch is one of the most fundamental aspects of any living room space.
Besides being designed to offer you plenty of comforts while you sit back and enjoy your favorite shows on the TV, a couch is also a place for you to entertain and socialize with guests - so it’s important to make sure that you’ve aligned your sofa with the rules of Feng Shui.
Even though there are many people that are unaware of how the layout of furniture can have a positive or negative impact, for those who have an interest in Feng Shui, the layout of a room is fundamental to achieving a harmonious, joyful, and abundant life in all areas.
To help you understand that a little bit more, Feng Shui is essentially a system of rules and beliefs that believe that the spatial arrangement of the home can have a direct impact on the flow of energy in one’s life.
It is an ancient Chinese practice that is built of a system of different practices that all aim to help enhance your overall wellbeing and happiness within a specific area, such as within the home.
It does this by utilizing a variety of rules that are all designed to help improve the flow of energy within your home. To follow, the term “Chi” is used to refer to energy, and it is believed that it is an energy that is present both inside and outside of us at all times.
What It Means To Keep Your Couch Facing The Door, According To Feng Shui
Whether it be from personal preference or in order to make sure that your couch is able to actually fit in your living space, many people do opt to keep their couch facing the door - but, what does this mean when taking a look at it from the perspective of Feng Shui?
Let’s break it all down below:
First things first, if the position of your coach is aligned with the door that it has been positioned to face, then according to Feng Shui it means that there will be an unstable flow of energy that could have a negative impact on you and everyone else living in the house.
To give you an idea of what we mean by this, according to Feng Shui, the unstable energy that could be created from placing the couch directly in front of the front door could lead to the Chi energy manifesting into the real world as bad luck, poor decision making abilities, as well as a busy working life/schedule that does not bring about good fortune or financial stability/advancements.
It should also be noted that positioning a couch facing the door could also have a negative effect on the relationship shared between everyone within the household.
So much so, that according to the principles of Feng Shui, a couch that has been positioned to sit directly in alignment with the door could lead to family members not wanting to be in the house for long periods of time, which could lead to family members losing their bonds that are shared with each other.
How To Reposition Your Couch So That There Is A Positive Flow Of Energy
So, even though facing your couch towards the door can have a negative effect on the flow of energy in your house, the good news is that there are a variety of ways that you can work to remedy this issue and get a positive flow of energy running through your home, rather than a negative one.
Relocate Your Couch
The most obvious solution to getting rid of the negative flow of energy in place of a more positive one is to simply opt to relocate your couch to a different location in your living room (or whatever room your couch is being kept in).
If possible, instead of positioning your couch directly in front of the door, we instead recommend that you position your sofa flat against a solid wall.
In addition to this, it should also be noted that you do not need to press your sofa directly up against the wall, instead, you can simply position it directly in front of the solid wall, while also making sure that it is not aligned with the door.
Accessorize Your Couch To Increase Positive Energy
If you are unable to relocate your couch to an appropriate space of the living room, then another way that you can help to counteract the negative impact of placing your couch directly in alignment with the door is by using comfortable pillows and throws to increase comfort and relaxation, which will, in turn, boost positive energy flows throughout your home.
Avoid Placing Your Couch Against A Window
It should also be noted that positioning a couch against a window area is another bad feng shui placement, and can invite a variety of negative energies into your household.
This is because similar to positioning your couch in front of a door or doorway, a window can also provide unpredictable energy, and in turn, can lead to a bad flow of energy through your home.
As a side note, even though it is bad feng shui placement to keep your sofa positioned directly in front of the door, it is not bad Feng Shui for your sofa to be positioned in such a way that a view of the door/doorway is possible.
By ensuring that you will be able to view your door from where you are sitting on your sofa, you will be able to enjoy an increased level of relaxation and wellbeing, as you will always be able to see what is going on in your passageway and other visible areas of the home.
